About Me

Hi! My name is Kate White, and I'm the coordinator of the Wilmette Plant Club.

After working in the media industry, I now stay at home with my three young children. Upon moving to a new home, I became involved in plants and gardening, a hobby passed down through both my grandfather and mother. My eldest daughter and I have enjoyed creating a monarch habitat and are currently working on creating an environment for more wildlife; the younger two enjoy the rocks and worms; and the whole family has enjoyed watching apples bloom on our dwarf apple tree.

Come say hello when you pick up your plants. And if I can help you with anything, shoot me an email at wilmette@northshoreplantclub.com!

Testimonials

We've been helping people get affordable access to great plants on the North Shore since 2018.

Here's what they say about the Wilmette Plant Club:

I just wanted to thank you for making the North Shore Plant Club available to local residents, and for all that you do to run the organization so efficiently. My family and I have been amazed by the wide variety of plants we are able to purchase, and the high-quality plants we have received! It's like Christmas morning when I get your text saying that our plants are ready for pickup! We had a busy weekend of planting a butterfly garden, all thanks to you. It's official --- we are addicted to the North Shore Plant Club!

Just placed my last order of the year (more Toad Lilies) :) Thank you so much for your work with the Plant Club! Being able to find the exact plants that I want has just been the best. I'm more interested in my garden than ever and having more fun. -- WW

Thank you for everything you’re all doing. I cannot tell you HOW AMAZING my flowers and shrubs are doing, the quality is incredible! I usually replace my flowers in my planters for fall but I don’t know if I'll have the heart. My sunpatiens are so gorgeous and HUGE! -- KH

I love this service so much - thank you!

Limited Availability

We try very hard to source exactly what you’d like, but sometimes growers run out of plants! While this variety is a great deal at the price shown, we know that it has limited availability. If you want the plant even if it might be more expensive, or in a different size or quantity -- after you place your order, just send us a quick note at help@northshoreplantclub.com. Then, we’ll try to get you some version of this from one of our growers. And if we can’t get it from anywhere, of course, we’ll send a refund!

Field-Grown vs. Greenhouse-Grown Plants

Plants which are well-adapted to our local climate are most often field-grown (outside). Field-grown plants are generally cheaper and have the advantage of already somewhat acclimated to our cold winters, but that means they’re not artificially far along in the spring and tend to bloom at the normal time in our area.

Spring annuals and tender perennials are typically grown in Greenhouses so they can be ready and luxurious exactly when customers want them. Some perennials are also “forced” into early bloom in greenhouses. In May, there can be a very big difference between field-grown and greenhouse-grown plants of the same type. The latter typically look good right away (so they’re a great choice where that’s important), but we typically pay a premium for it.
