'Butterscotch' is a selection of threadleaf bluestar (some sources label it a hybrid, most call it a straight Amsonia hubrichtii selection) distinguished by reddish stems, in contrast to the species' typical green-tan stems, and a richer, more saturated orange-gold "butterscotch" fall color. Pale to steel-blue star-shaped flowers appear in May-June over fine, threadleaf foliage. It's marketed as having improved form and disease resistance compared to the species, though independent trial data confirming that comparison wasn't found.
