Deciduous Perennial Upright in the Asteraceae Family
A vigorous Walters Gardens hybrid yarrow with light peachy-orange flowers that age to yellow, blooming in dense flat clusters from early to late summer. Fast-growing, drought-tolerant, and fragrant — a standout in the Firefly Collection series.

Achillea 'Firefly Peach Sky' is a hybrid yarrow bred by Hans A. Hansen at Walters Gardens, part of the Firefly Collection series. It was selected from a 2014 seedling trial in Zeeland, Michigan, and patented in 2020 (US Plant Patent PP32404). Flat clusters of light peachy-orange flowers open in early summer and gradually age to yellow, so new and older blooms mingle for a two-toned, peach-and-gold effect over a long bloom season.

The plant forms a tall, upright clump of aromatic, finely-cut dark green foliage, with sturdy stems that support the fast, vigorous growth this series is known for. Cutting plants back by about half after the first flush of bloom encourages a strong second round of flowers.

Field-Grown vs. Greenhouse-Grown Plants

Plants which are well-adapted to our local climate are most often field-grown (outside). Field-grown plants are generally cheaper and have the advantage of already somewhat acclimated to our cold winters, but that means they’re not artificially far along in the spring and tend to bloom at the normal time in our area.

Spring annuals and tender perennials are typically grown in Greenhouses so they can be ready and luxurious exactly when customers want them. Some perennials are also “forced” into early bloom in greenhouses. In May, there can be a very big difference between field-grown and greenhouse-grown plants of the same type. The latter typically look good right away (so they’re a great choice where that’s important), but we typically pay a premium for it.
