Annual Phlox is a low, mounding wildflower native to Texas and the south-central United States, where it completes its whole life cycle - germinating, blooming, and setting seed - in a single season, often reseeding itself for the following year. Clusters of five-petaled, tubular flowers cover the plant through the growing season, drawing butterflies and bees. The wild type is typically rose-red, though cultivated seed strains span a much wider color range.
