'Queen Victoria' is a Victorian-era Cardinal Flower selection, named for the British queen, prized for its vivid scarlet flowers set against bronze-maroon foliage that deepens to near-purple in full sun. Several European sources classify it under the complex hybrid group Lobelia x speciosa (a cross involving L. cardinalis, L. siphilitica, and L. fulgens) rather than pure L. cardinalis -- an old, genuinely disputed classification for a cultivar this age, not resolved here. Blooms on upright spikes from midsummer into early fall.
