Calamagrostis is a genus of flowering plants in the grass family Poaceae, with about 260 species that occur mainly in temperate regions of the globe. These tufted perennials grasses have linear, flat leaves with ornamental displays of dense flowerheads. The loosely feathered, subtly purplish inflorescence appears in early summer. Then become narrow, vertical, buff, colored plumes by late summer. They remain attractive most of the winter.
